The u-turn Process
Welcome to U-Turn Audio, located on a small road off Main Street. We share our building with a cabinet maker and a leather distributor. We have been in this space since July 2014, after a fire forced us to leave our old facility down the block.
Every Orbit starts as a blank plinth. We use a CNC router to drill the hole patterns on the plinth, and then we drill out the hinge holes by hand. Our plinths come cut and powder coated from Minnesota. The vast majority of our parts (80-90% of our total Bill of Materials, depending on the cartridge) come from US suppliers.
Once the holes are drilled, we install the Orbit's components (circuit boards, tonearm, main bearing, and feet) onto the plinth. Elsewhere on the floor, sub-assemblies are being built and fed to the main assembly line for installation. Altogether, our process consists of 20 assembly stations that work in harmony to produce over 200 unique turntable configurations.
Meet the Orbit Turntable
The Orbit is a high performance, customizable turntable that starts at $179. Each one is carefully built by hand in Boston. The Orbit is for anyone who loves their music - first time vinyl listeners and seasoned audiophiles alike.
Make it yours
Our Orbit Builder lets
you choose the color, cartridge, platter, and add-ons that fit your
preferences and your budget. Need a phono preamp for your setup? We've
got that covered. New to vinyl? Check out our tutorials.
A turntable should be reliable and easy to use, but most importantly it should sound great. The Orbit is built from high quality materials and features an innovative unipivot tonearm and AC synchronous motor that runs quietly and consistently.
